Lap Timing & telemetry

For GPS based lap timing systems follow this link

Lap timing - The lap timing beacon set forms a critical function within the overall design of a MM Data Systems system. On the surface the driver/rider will see the display of lap time and an incremental count of the lap number. Below the surface the software uses this trigger to carry out all of the following functions:
• Reset the lap distance counter to zero
• Calculate the fuel consumption per lap
• Predict the number of laps remaining at current consumption
• Determine the start point for all ‘split time’ data
• Reset the time counter to .01sec
• Enable the comparison of data from one lap to another
• Creates the possibility for circuit shape mapping
• Activate the data transmission burst for telemetry

You soon see how important it is to have a fully operational lap-timing beacon.
All beacon sets are uniquely coded to the your team to avoid false triggers from other users. This also means that a single pit wall transmitter can activate any number of similarly coded cars/bikes.

This same equipment can also be used with any other hardware which can be triggered by a single 5msec square pulse from 0volts up to 5v and then down to 0 volts.

DK-RX is the in-vehicle optical receiver - Alternative connectors available to suit MT906-C or D installations

DK-TX is the pit wall transmitter

Ducati 749 and 999 lap timing system - This kit comes complete with all necessary parts to enable fitment of the receiver onto the bike and connects directly to the standard loom using the spare 3 way connector located on the front right upper frame tube. There are no settings required by the user, simply plug it into the bike switch on the road side transmitter.

The system comprises of two devices, the DK-TX is a ?road side? transmitter, which continually transmits an infra red coded signal, as the bike passes this device, the on-board DK-RX Ducati receiver accepts this signal and resets the lap timer within the standard Ducati dashboard. The lap time between 2 successive passes of the transmitter is seen on the bike LCD display.

Telemetry - Our professional systems are able to transmit a low speed serial data steam output to an in car data-radio, there is another pit-box data-radio to receive the signal and feed this to a DKR-232 Modem box. This DKR-232 is programmed with the DLS table which is generated by Table Manager.

Because this is a 'low cost' telemetry system there is only one reception antenna so there will be positions on the circuit where your signal is dead. This is not a problem providing you transmit the distance channel as part of your transmission, Data View will automatically adjust to the new track position when you regain data transmission.

You are able to select any channel for transmission and choose the transmission frequency. Using table/information you can check the percentage of available radio bandwidth. 100% = maximum.

At the end of each lap (lap beacon) the real time data is stored as a data file, each subsequent lap is added to the preceding lap to build up a data file. This data file does not replace your normal download because the frequency is low, the number of channels is low and there may be 'dead zones' of no data. You will still need to make a normal download via Ethernet (or card)

There are many data radios available, the license free' 800Mhz type may be used anywhere in Europe but the range is not the best. The lower frequency 400>500Mhz radios are much better but must be checked for legality in each country. We are able to supply these radios to special order.

For each car you will need a DKR-232, 2 radios and a set of antenna and mast.
